  1. Why do I need to choose a sign-in method?

The government provides you with several sign in options. You can create a GCKey account or you can access them by signing in with your online bank, credit card issuer or other participating "Sign-In Partner" using Interac® sign-in service. These options will help you to securely conduct online business with various governmental programs and services using a single account.

  2. What is GCKey?

The GCKey service is provided by the Government of Canada to allow you to securely conduct online business with various governmental programs and services, using a single username and password. For more information about the GCKey service, or to get help related to a GCKey account, please visit GCKey - FAQ.

  3. What is Interac® sign-in service?

The Interac® sign-in service is a convenient way to access online services – instead of creating and managing a new username and password for accessing online services, you access them by signing in with your online bank or other participating "Sign-In Partner".

No passwords or personal information (i.e., name, address, date of birth, etc.) are exchanged during this process.

The Interac® sign-in service is a commercial service managed by Interac Corp. and its subsidiaries in cooperation with participating Sign-In Partners.

For more information about Interac® sign-in service, or for help related to Interac® sign-in service, please visit Interac® sign-in service.

  4. If I don’t have an account, what can I do?

To register or sign up for a GCKey account, go to the Government of Canada website that you would like to access and click the "Sign up" button when you are presented with the GCKey sign in page and asked to provide a username and password.

To use a Sign-In Partner, an online banking account is required from an applicable financial institution. See the list of supported Sign-In Partners on the sign-in page.

  5. I cannot sign in, what should I do?

If you’re having trouble signing in, try these common fixes:

    • make sure you’re using the most recent version of a supported browser, like Edge, Safari, Chrome or Firefox
    • don’t use a favourite link or bookmark
    • delete any saved favourite links or bookmarks
    • close your browser and then
      • reopen the browser and clear your browser cache
      • close the browser again
      • reopen the browser and try to log in to your account
    • Refer to the Contact Us page for more information on how to get in touch with us.

  6. What browser should I use?

Supported browsers include the most recent versions of Edge, Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Also ensure that both your computer and browser have the latest updates installed.
